Hida Takayama is located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Hida Takayama is best known for its inhabitantsf expertise in carpentry, and many of carpenters from Hida Takayama worked on the Imperial Palace in Kyoto and on many of the temples in Kyoto and Nara. The high altitude and separation from other areas of Japan kept Hida Takayama fairly isolated, allowing the city to develop its own culture over about a 300-year period, and Hida Takayama is often called gLittle Kyoto.h

Hida Takayama has Takayama Jinya is a former government outpost that was established in order to bring the Hida Province under the direct control of the Edo Bakufu (Shogunate). The building was originally built in early 1600fs. As the only remaining building of its kind, Takayama Jinya is now under protective ordinances as an historical asset and has been restored almost entirely to its original Edo Period State. Near Takayama Jinya, there is a street, called Furui Machinami. The street is nationally recognized important historical building preservation area, and you can enjoy shopping while walking by those historical buildings.

Hida Takayama is the home of one of the three largest Shinto festivals in Japan. The Takayama Festival are two distinctive festivals in April and October. If you visit Hida Takayama not around the time of the festivals, do not worry, you still have a chance to see the Yatai (floats) which are used during the festivals. They can be found in the Takayama Yatai Kaikan (Takayama Festival Float Exhibition Hall).

Lastly, Hida Takayama is also known for local foods, including (of course!) Hida Beef, ramen, soba, and last but not the lease, sake! While walking on Furui Machinami, you will see lots of sake shops.

Hida Takayama has been attracting many people not only from all over Japan but also from many countries, and Hida Takayama was admitted by the French Michelin practical guidebook, gVoyager Pratique Japonh as a 3 Michelin starts and introduced as a must visit sightseeing spot.
